Cookies and Tracking Policy

This policy is a part of our Terms of Service. By creating an account or viewing the pages on the Finnalby Sites, you’re agreeing to our Terms of Service and this policy.

We use a variety of technologies to help us better understand how you use Finnalby.com (the "Site"), Finnalby's mobile applications (the "Apps") and memberships, website, and our other services (collectively as the "Services"). We'll refer to the Site, the Apps, and the Services collectively as "Finnalby" throughout this policy. By using Finnalby, you consent to us using cookies and similar tracking technologies in the ways described below.

Finnalby adheres to the Digital Advertising Alliance's Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising. As part of our commitment to upholding a high standard of transparency in our Privacy Policy and practices, we've created this guide to explain the tracking technologies we use on the Site.

Tracking Technologies

Cookies: In technology, a cookie is a small text file that is created by a website and stored on a user's computer or mobile device. When a user visits the website, the site sends the cookie to their browser, which then stores it on the user's device. Cookies are used to remember user preferences, login information, and browsing history, enabling a more personalized and efficient browsing experience.

Cookies can be classified into several types based on their lifespan and purpose:

Session cookies: These cookies are temporary and only exist during a single browsing session. They are deleted automatically when the user closes their browser. Session cookies are commonly used to maintain user sessions and keep track of user activities on the website.

Persistent cookies: These cookies have a longer lifespan and remain on the user's device even after the browser is closed. They are used to remember user preferences, login information, and other data across multiple browsing sessions. Persistent cookies typically have a predetermined expiration date, after which they are automatically deleted.

First-party cookies: These cookies are created and managed by the website the user is visiting. They are used to enhance the user experience by remembering preferences, login information, and other personalized settings.

Third-party cookies: These cookies are created by external websites or services and are used for various purposes, such as tracking user behavior across multiple websites, delivering targeted advertisements, and analyzing website traffic.

Cookies are generally harmless and contribute to a more convenient and personalized browsing experience. However, some users may have privacy concerns related to the use of cookies, as they can be used to track user behavior and preferences. To address these concerns, most web browsers allow users to manage their cookie preferences, including blocking or deleting cookies altogether (see Managing Cookies below).

Clear gifs, web beacons, web bugs:

Clear gifs, web beacons, and web bugs are all terms used to describe small, transparent graphic images or pieces of code that are embedded in websites, emails, or online advertisements. They are typically invisible to the user, being only 1x1 pixel in size and often the same color as the background.

These tracking technologies serve various purposes, such as:

  1. Monitoring user behavior: Clear gifs, web beacons, and web bugs can track user interactions with a website or email, such as which pages are visited, how long users spend on a page, or whether users click on specific links or open emails.
  2. Collecting data for analytics: They can help website owners and marketers gather data about website traffic, user engagement, and the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. This data can be used to improve website content, optimize user experience, and adjust marketing strategies.
  3. Personalizing content and advertising: By tracking user behavior and preferences, these technologies can help deliver more relevant content and advertisements to users, based on their browsing history and interactions with a website or email campaign.
  4. Verifying ad impressions: Clear gifs and web beacons can help advertisers and marketers verify that their ads are being displayed correctly and track the number of times an ad is viewed or clicked on.

While clear gifs, web beacons, and web bugs can provide valuable insights and improve user experience, some users may have privacy concerns regarding these tracking technologies, as they can be used to collect information about their online activities. To address these concerns, users can enable privacy settings in their web browsers or use browser extensions that block tracking technologies. Additionally, many websites and online services provide options for users to opt-out of tracking for advertising or analytics purposes.

Cookies also permit us to learn about what ads you see and click when you visit Finnalby, the Apps, and affiliated sites, to limit the number of times you may see the same ad, or to show you more useful and relevant ads. This is done by understanding what may interest you based on your web browsing and web searching. The cookies used for this process only the search terms you use and technical information related to your PC or other device as follows:

Finnalby sometimes partners with third-party services who may use various tracking technologies to provide certain services or features, including targeted online marketing techniques such as attribution tracking, remarketing, and cross-device tracking.

  • Attribution tracking means estimating what advertising or marketing source a user followed to come to Finnalby, or to determine what marketing source should get credit for actions like a visit or a purchase.
  • Remarketing means showing relevant ads to an audience based on prior shopping patterns on Finnalby, whether or not the audience made a purchase.
  • Cross-device tracking means recognizing an audience across multiple devices or browsers.

Some of these third-party services may provide us with information about you (such as demographic information, cross-device information, or interest categories) from a combination of sources that permit us to provide you with more relevant and useful advertising. The Apps may include third party mobile analytics software and APIs that may be used to enhance our data, to improve the Services, or for marketing purposes.

These technologies allow a partner to recognize your computer or mobile device each time you visit Finnalby, but do not allow access to other personally identifiable information from Finnalby. No other personal data is passed to our advertising partners, and they cannot identify you or contact you directly from the information available to them. However, these technologies may allow us or a third party to recognize you, either across devices or over time. Finnalby does not have control over these third-party technologies, which maintain their own privacy policies, and they are not covered by our Privacy Policy, although we do require them to follow applicable laws and self-regulatory programs. The Site may include widgets from third-party websites and social networks, and third parties may choose to include Finnalby widgets on their websites. Finnalby, as well as the third party, may receive analytics from those widgets that may be used to enhance our data, to improve the Services, or for marketing purposes. You can manage your privacy preferences for these widgets via your account with the third party.
